The oldest known runic alphabet is the Elder Futhark, which was used from approximately 150 to 800 AD. Its name derives from the first six runes: Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raido, and Kenaz. What are runestones?

Today, the term runestones is also frequently used for smaller, hand-polished stones into which individual runes are engraved. These are often used as personal or spiritual tools, for example for meditation or for interpreting symbols, similar to tarot or oracle cards.
